Welcome to L.A., Endeavour!! by GrummanCat Welcome to L.A., Endeavour!! by GrummanCat
So is this the very first picture of Endeavour arriving in Los Angeles on Deviantart??

Hot off the press. Just about 45 minutes ago. The very first time I ever got to see a Space Shuttle in person!

OMG there were SO many people on the street! Hundreds. I was there for hours before the landing. It was SOOOO worth it!

What a glorious shot you've captured there!!! You are so lucky to have gotten to be there for this! I wanted to go, as I am only about an hour or so from LAX, but family duties kept me home. I did watch it live on TV though. A momentous occasion to be sure! It was very cool that Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek's Uhura) was Emcee for this occasion. :)

I saw it flying over my apartment in Burbank, CA today as I was heading out to grab lunch. Kinda kicking myself I didn't think to snap a picture of it with my phone. It was quite an experience to see though.

It's enough just to appreciate it! I mean if it's pictures you want you can grab great ones from DA or Airliners.net. What's most important is the memory you have of seeing her in person!

Thanks! Yeah, my favorite mission was STS-61, the first Hubble repair mission.

Was that the one where Hubble was effectively given a pair of spectacles? I believe that was due to a conversion error from imperial to metric.... Mind what a success that mission was and the amount of science that Hubble then was able to provide. It's a shame the shuttle is now retired but hopefully this isn't the end of man's (damn, I nearly said endeavours!!!) missons into space.

Yes about the Hubble repair mission, but the conversion error was the Mars Observer probe.

I live in Tucson, Arizona, USA. It literally flew right by my house on the way there, low to the ground and so close I almost felt like I could touch it. Awesome, and a little saddening.

I saw it while I was at school, I couldn't help but feel utter reverence at the sight. Not even the sadness of seeing such greatness being grounded could top it. :D

That's an awesome memory! Now we can go see her up close! Apparently the museum will be mounting her vertically in a launch attitude in a 26-story high hall. I hope they paint a life size fuel tank and SRBs on the wall behind her!

I experienced undoubtedly the worst traffic the LA area has to offer. 4 hours to get from LAX to Riverside! On the way there, traffic was stopped for 2 or 3 hours between Blythe and Indio due to an accident.

The mattress at the Motel 6 was saggy and left my knees feeling sore when I woke up.

I walked a couple of miles today and stood around waiting from 8am to after 12. A little sunburned (or lightly toasted?).

Was it worth it??

HELL FREAKING YES!!!
